The Blueprint: facing the challenges of the advanced biofuels industry

Please join NETG for an interactive lecture with NU alum Doug Williams:

Friday, May 4 @ 4-5pm in Tech LR2 (enter main doors on Sheridan and turn left) RSVP

The current “first generation” biofuels industry has proven to be robust and competitive on a global scale.  While finding new sources of petroleum has proved challenging, biofuels have provided a meaningful alternative.  The emerging advanced and cellulosic biofuels are leveraging the policies and practices of this industry to provide a more sustainable solution.  There are, however, some very clear technical, political, and economic hurdles that this industry must face.  I will highlight some of these key challenges and the resultant opportunities.

Doug Williams is the Sr. Business Development Associate at Coskata, a biofuels technology start-up located in Warrenville, IL.  At Coskata, Doug identifies opportunities for licensing Coskata’s unique biofuels production process and maintains relationships through the emerging biofuels industry. Prior to Coskata, he was Operational Excellence Manager at Genentech, a leading biotechnology firm in South San Francisco, CA.  Early in his career, Doug held a number of engineering and operations management roles at Nalco Chemical and Colgate-Palmolive.  He has also worked with a number of start-up companies including SuccessFactors, a cloud application company recently acquired by SAP, and CleanSource Power, a solar PPA provider in Mill Valley, CA.  Doug has a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Northwestern University and a MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business.  Doug currently serves on the Advisory Board for NUvention Energy.
