Delivering Development: Globalization and the Road to a Sustainable Future

Thursday, April 5, 6-7:30pm

Buffet Center, 1902 Sheridan Rd Evanston

Over his 13 years of working along what he calls "globalization's shoreline," a world region buffeted by the economic, political, and environmental decisions of those living in wealthier places, Edward Carr has concluded that most experts misunderstand what they are trying to fix, and cannot tell if they are fixing it. Carr's recent book, "Delivering Development," is an eye opening, you-are-there book that compels the reader to question conventional wisdom and redefine what assistance to the developing world really means. http://www.facebook.com/events/193111940803842/

NESC Brown Bag Lunch: The Scientific Evidence for Global Warming: A Geologist's Perspective

Tuesday, April 10, 12:15-1:00 pm, Norris Center: Lake Room (rm 203)

Brad Sageman, Professor of Earth & Planetary Sciences, will distill the key lines of evidence concerning the question "Are anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions causing global warming?" The more open-ended questions that stem from such a presentation ("How soon will it happen?" "How bad will it get?") are perhaps best addressed by reference to the geological record.
